NHL Rumors: Tyler Myers Days in Vancouver Are Numbered

The Vancouver Canucks held defenseman Tyler Myers out of the lineup last night for roster management reasons. They've got an offer they like and approached Myers about waiving his no-movement clause.

Update – TSN: The Canucks have a trade offer from the Detroit Wings they like, but Tyler Myers hasn’t signed off on it, according to Chris Johnston on Insider Trading.

“I do certainly think as a veteran player who has earned that no-movement clause in his contract, he’s open and willing to thinking about where else he might play, but it may or may not end up being in Detroit.

And so I think we just have to kind of let this breathe a little bit and play out. Perhaps another team steps forward that’s a place that he’s more inclined to play.”

Myers had wanted to finish his career in Vancouver, and his family is rooted in the community. He does know the Canucks are in fire sale mode, so there is a lot on his mind. He does control where he ultimately ends up. He’ll take his time.

The Vancouver Canucks held Tyler Myers out as they work on a trade

Rick Dhaliwal: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was held out of last night’s game for trade related reasons.

Darren Dreger: It’s believed that the Detroit Red Wings is the target. The Dallas Stars have also shown some interest. Myers may take his time to see how the process develops.

  • Darren Dreger: “Rick is correct. The Canucks have a trade option they’ve asked Myers to consider. He has protection and is taking his time to consider. I’m told it was presented two days ago. The veteran and his agent, J.P Barry continue to deliberate.”
  • Chris Johnston: “Of note in this situation is the fact that Tyler Myers currently holds a full NMC, which converts to a 12-team no-trade list this summer. So, there’s an element of pressure lingering in the background as Myers weighs his options.”

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, and the Winnipeg Jets

Thomas Drance of The Athletic: Tylers Myers was scratched last night for “roster management” reasons, as the Vancouver Canucks work on a trade. He did lead the team onto the ice in full uniform, as he normally does. It was partially done as a precaution they only had six defensemen, and if someone got injured during warmups, he’d be ready.

Coach Adam Foote: “You always need to put your seventh defender in, in case there’s a groin pull or a puck to the face.”

Myers would prefer not to be traded as he’s deeply set in Vancouver. He does hold a no-movement clause. It does switch to a 12-team no-trade list this summer, so he does have more control if he picks his next team now.

The Canucks approached Myers earlier this week with a trade scenario. The Canucks have something they like if Myers would agree to the trade.

NHL Rumors: Will the Vancouver Canucks Have a Busy Trade Deadline?

Canucks Brock Boeser:

“This time of year is the worst. When you think about our team and think ‘What are some guys you could get good value for,’ you immediately think about the big, veteran, right-handed defencemen, right? His cap hit is cheap. You look at it, and it’s obviously (a move) that makes sense.

“For me, I looked at it and thought, ‘Of course, teams are going to be calling left and right on this guy.’ It’s a crappy part of the business; he’s such a good leader in this room, and he’s the oldest guy here. When we lose him, we get very young. That’ll be a big adjustment.”
