  • Kevin Allen of USA Today: Some veterans that could be available this weekend: Jason Spezza, Ryan Kesler, Dion Phaneuf (Oilers need a centerpiece defenseman), Danny Briere, Evander Kane, Dustin Byfuglien and Vincent Lecavalier.
  • Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: The Bruins may not be able offer Jarome Iginla a multi-year offer or as much money as other teams could be willing to offer.

“We’re going to have to make some harder decisions this year,” general manager Peter Chiarelli acknowledged to reporters earlier this week. “It’s something that we’re prepared to do.”

The Bruins were hit with a $4.75 million bonus overage penalty.

  • Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: The Coyotes current payroll is at $51.4 million and they expect to be around the middle of the pack for next year.

“There’s some flexibility right now,” Maloney said. “There are other things we’re doing that might create more flexibility, but right now there’s some flexibility.”

They don’t plan on bringing Derek Morris back. They will re-engage talks with Radim Vrbata, Dave Moss, Paul Bissonnette, Jeff Halpren and Thomas Greiss.

  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said that to move up to the top part of the draft it would cost Jonathan Drouin or Andrei Vasilevskiy, and that is “not an option for us.”
  • Michael Russo: Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said he has nothing imminent, but that can quickly change. There are a couple scenarios he wants to talk to his staff with.
  • Darren Dreger: Teams that are at the high end of the cap are getting nervous over the NHL and NHLPA talks about next seasons salary cap. If it’s less than $70 million, it could be problematic for many teams.
