David Pagnotta: Assuming Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson isn’t traded by Friday, the sides are expected to resume contract talks at some point after the deadline. Carlson has a 10-team no-trade list, and the Capitals are not expected to trade him.
The Islanders and Bruins were interested in Conor Garland, but it seems unlikely

Kathryn Tappen: “Where do things stand right now. You’re talking about Colton Parayko. With Robert Thomas, it just seems like things have very quickly cooled off on that conversation front.”
Friedman: “Well, I think that Thomas, I think Buffalo and St Louis talked pretty deeply about it. I think they were talking about both Thomas and Parayko potentially as a double deal.
The interesting thing about this is, I think St. Louis and Montreal talked about (Jordan) Kyrou last summer. And while that deal didn’t happen, they still did the (Logan) Mailloux deal with (Zach) Bolduc. So, it’s the second time I believe that St Louis has talked about a bigger deal and done a smaller one. Even though Parayko is an Olympian.
I still do think Thomas is out there. Doug Armstrong warned his core players that there were going to be changes. And he said that they should all be prepared for the possibility they will be asked to waive their various no-trade clauses.
So I think Thomas is still out there, I think Kyrou is still out there. I think (Justin) Faulk is still out there. I still think (Jordan) Binnington is out there. And I think, I think (Brayden) Schenn is out there.

But I think the prices are high, and the players have to agree. I still think there’s a possibility, and I never assume anything is over until it’s really over, as in, the player is traded, or the deadline is passed.”
