On the Ottawa Senators and Mike Hoffman …
Bruce Garrioch in the Ottawa Citizen: The Ottawa Senators signed winger Mike Hoffman to a four-year contract worth $20.75 million deal – a $5.185 million salary cap hit.
“It’s just a great day for the organization,” Dorion said on a conference call Wednesday morning. “I shouldn’t tell you this but I actually hugged (assistant GM) Randy Lee.”
The Senators presented Hoffman the offer last night and he wanted to sleep on it.
“My main goal was to come to an agreement with Ottawa,” said Hoffman from his Kitchener home. “It’s a team that I want to play for. I’m really looking forward to working with Guy Boucher again.
“I love the city, the fans and it just seems like it’s a good fit for me. My first priority was to try to get the job done with Ottawa.”
Hoffman has a 10 team no trade list for the final three years of the deal. Salary breakdown is $3.8 million next year, and $5.65 million in the final three years.
General Fanager: After signing Hoffman, the Senators have about $8.86 million in salary cap space with a roster of 14 forwards, six defenseman and two goalies. Cody Ceci is their only remaining RFA.
Todd Cordell: “Term is a bit short but Hoffman at $5.18M per is a steal for the Senators. One of the best 5 v 5 scorers there is.”
On the Detroit Red Wings and Petr Mrazek …
Elliotte Friedman: Petr Mrazek and the Red Wings agreed to a two year deal before their arbitration hearing – $3.85 million and $4.15 million in 2017-18.
Ansar Khan of MLive: After signing Mrazek to a two-year, $8 million deal, the Red Wings are now about $4.2 million over the salary cap. They can get some LTIR cap relief at the start of the season from Johan Franzen ($3.95 million), Joe Vitale ($1.16 million) and Teemu Pulkkinen ($612,500).
On the Nashville Predators, Calle Jarnkrok and Matt Carle …
Nashville Predators: The Predators have signed forward Calle Jarnkrok to a six-year contract worth $12 million.
He’ll earn $1.7 million in 2016-17, $1.8 million in 2017-18, $2.1 million in 2018-19, $2.2 million in 2019-20 and 2020-21, and $2 million in 2021-22.
Ryan Kennedy: “That Calle Jarnkrok contract…why would you bet against yourself like that?”
Stephen Whyno: The Predators sign free agent defenseman Matt Carle to a one-year deal worth $700,000. He was bought out by the Lightning earlier this offseason.
