The Arizona Coyotes have traded goaltender Mike Smith to the Calgary Flames for a conditional 2018 third round pick, Brandon Hickey and the rights to Chad Johnson.
The 35-year old Smith was drafted 161st overall in the 5th round of the 2001 draft by the Stars. He carries a $5.67 million cap hit for another two years.
Craig Morgan: The third round pick would become a second round pick if the Flames make the playoffs.
Frank Seravalli: The Coyotes are expected to retain 25 percent of Smith’s $5.67 cap hit.
Smith vs Talbot = Goals Saved Above Average – All situations – Last 3 seasons. At 35 yrs old I don’t expect Smith to get better. pic.twitter.com/HuWZrgRAJa
