The Los Angeles Kings have traded forward Dwight King to the Montreal Canadiens for a conditional 2018 4th round pick.
The 27-year old King was drafted 109th overall in the 4th round of the 2007 draft by the Kings. He carries a $1.95 million salary cap hit and will be a free agent after the season.
Jon Rosen: Not confirmed, conditions on the fourth could be “upgradeable depending on team playoff success or player re-signing with the club.”
Some thoughts from the media …
Cap Friendly: “#Habs had $983,725 in projected cap space prior to the trade with LA for King. This move now drops their available cap space to $550,392.”
Dennis Bernstein: “If Dwight King plays consistent bottom 6 for Montreal he can contribute. Issue in LA: far too many minutes on top 6 from Sutter.”
Stormin Norman: “Scouting report on Dwight King Heavy – reliable – good defensively – strong as a bull – if he gets ticked off he can handle anyone”
John Lu: “King scored 15 and 13 in two of last three seasons. He’s a big, intimidating and tough playoff-type player.”
John Rosen: “Suspected we’d see a Dwight King trade. UFA at the end of the season; nothing going, negotiations-wise. MTL gets a very good penalty killer.”
