NHL will make some rule changes: Visors grandfathered, hybrid icing test, video review and shallower nets
  • Chris Johnston: The NHL will grandfather in visors next season. Mathieu Schneider said it was a “clear majority” of players support, but wouldn’t give numbers. Ben Kuzma: Players who have played 26 regular season or playoff games don’t have to wear a visor.
  • Chris Johnston: Colin Campbell said that the penalty for starting a fight with a visor on will have to change.
  • Chris Johnston: The NHL will try hybrid icing during the pre-season and could use during the regular season.
  • Darren Dreger: There will be additional video review for four minute high-sticking penalties. This is a big step for allowing other video review issues down the road.
  • James Mirtle: The NHL will also be making the nets shallower, creating more room behind the net.
