NHLPA expected to submit proposal to the NHL this morning

  • Darren Dreger via twitter: The NHLPA confirms this mornings meeting should start around 10 AM. The NHLPA continued to strategize and prepare for their presentation last night.
  • TSN: The NHLPA is expect to put forth a proposal this morning. The NHL had asked Don Fehr to make an offer that included how to split revenue and play contracting rights. The league has decided to cancel the first two weeks of December according to a source. Both sides still need to figure out how pay for the damage that has been done because of the lockout.

“If their proposal continues to be a guaranteed player amount, sitting here on Nov. 19, that’s not a proposal that would ever be acceptable to us,” said Daly. “If that happens to be where we are, we will be a long way apart.”

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Bill Daly:

“(Special counsel) Steve (Fehr) and I spoke late (Monday) night, and he confirmed the union would spend the day working on something to present to us, hopefully as early as (Wednesday),” said Daly Tuesday morning.

The NHLPA may be concerned about including too many givebacks to the NHL. They don’t believe this is the tipping point yet, and the players aren’t ready to cave in just yet. The players do want to get back playing, but they are not waving the white towel just yet. Player agents are putting some pressure on Fehr to get a deal done. Nick Kypreos said that “there are about a dozen” players putting some pressure on the NHLPA to get a deal done, some are high profile players. Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards showed up on Monday to see first hand how the talks are going.

  • Will DePaoli via twitter: League sources feel that Don Fehr may hold back for a couple more weeks. Some remain optimistic of a 50-54 game season.
  • Allan Walsh via twitter: Walsh spoke with about 15 players yesterday morning: “Players have always wanted a deal, they want to play. No “sense of urgency” any greater or less than before. With Philly article on owners lack of support to Bettman+Jacobs, NHL’s urging of players to make new proposal a “sense of urgency” exists over state of negotiations that cannot be assigned to one side any more or less than the other.”
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: The NHLPA is working on the questions the NHL has: Where is the NHLPA on guaranteed share/make whole, and on player contracting issues such as backdiving contracts etc.
