  • Darren Dreger: Dreger was told that before the draft, the Canucks wanted a 1st, 2nd and top prospect from the Oilers for Cory Schneider. Pierre LeBrun: Word is the Schneider trade was agreed to on Saturday night. Jim Matheson: There was no way the Canucks GM Mike Gillis was trading Schneider to a rival like the Oilers.
  • Ben Kuzma: Mike Gillis: “We explored every situation with our goaltending and wanted to get into the top 10. We wanted to improve now and future.”
  • Darren Dreger: Gillis didn’t speak with Roberto Luongo before the trade.
  • James Duthie: Roberto Luongo: “I’m shocked! I have to let this sink in and figure out what I’m going to do.”
  • Tom Gulitti: Martin Brodeur said the Schneider trade was right for the organization, but he still thinks he’s the No. 1 goalie.
  • Jason Botchford: Schneider was never convinced the Canucks would have been able to trade Luongo’s contract.
