On the Ottawa Senators …
David Alter: Would have to think that there might be some contenders that aren’t getting that far on trade talks that could put a claim on Johnny Oduya.
Murray Pam: Sounds like there weren’t any teams interested in trading for Oduya. It is expected that the Senators will buy out Alex Burrows in June.
On the Ottawa Senators and Vegas Golden Knights …
Ken Warren of the Ottawa Sun: Erik Karlsson ending up with the Vegas Golden Knights makes sense – they have the pieces to get it done.
If the Senators get the right offer before the deadline, they’ll move him.
The Knights can take on Bobby Ryan‘s salary, and there wouldn’t be a need to involve one or two more teams to get the salaries to work out.
The Knights have ten picks in the first two rounds of the next three drafts – three first’s and seven seconds.
Senators GM Pierre Dorion would likely ask for defenseman Shea Theodore.
The Knights have prospects in Cody Glass, Nick Suzuki and Nicolas Hague.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are interested but GM Steve Yzerman has said he doesn’t want to move a roster player. Yzerman has also said he doesn’t want to move Brayden Point and Mikhail Sergachev.
If Karlsson isn’t moved at the deadline, more teams might be involved at the draft. The New York Rangers could come calling with their two firsts, two seconds and two thirds.
On the Nashville Predators …
Travis Yost: The Predators have emerged as another team looking at Erik Karlsson.
Travis Yost: The Predators may be able to put together a package that wouldn’t require a third team to make salaries work.
On the San Jose Sharks …
AJ Jakubec: Have been hearing that the Sharks are making a serious run at Erik Karlsson. Including Bobby Ryan and his contract is a stumbling block.
Murray Pam: Can confirm that the Sharks are one of the teams that are in the running for Erik Karlsson.
