Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: The Dispatch has learned that Edmonton Oilers defenseman Sheldon Souray is on the Columbus Blue Jackets radar. The team wants to look at their defensive corps during training camp before making a final decision on what to do. The Blue Jackets may look to send Mike Commodore the other way. Sheldon Souray is due to make $4.5 million the next 2 seasons, but is a $5.4 million cap hit. Mike Commodore will make $3.8 million this season, $3.5 million next year and $3.35 million the following year. The team will have a rough go at the box office this year after another season of not making the playoffs, and not doing much this off-season.
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: The Blue Jackets could use some offensive help on their blueline, and may look to a Souray-Commodore deal. The Jackets lost puck moving dman, Kris Russell for 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee. Commodore’s mother use to be a principal at an Edmonton HS. The Blue Jackets need an offensive defenseman, the Oilers need a stay at home guy.
Ryan Rishaug via twitter: The Oilers have talked to the Blue Jackets about a Souray for Commodore deal, but not recently to Rishaug’s knowledge.
