Preds likely to match offer sheet … Sabres say no to Hasek … Murray talks to Alfie … Several teams interested in Holmstrom … Wolski a top 6

  • The Toronto Sun: Any team could sign Shea Weber to an offer sheet, but it’s likely they would match any deal. It’s likely the Predators will sign him to a long term deal or trade him.
  • Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: Sabres GM Darcy Regier and coach Lindy Ruff met twice last month with Dominik Hasek, but have told Hasek they will be staying with Ryan Miller and Jhonas Enroth in goal.

“One thing I am sure of: has no doubt in his mind that he can play,” Regier told reporters Thursday night during a break in the team’s development camp scrimmage. “I think it probably gives him a little bit of lift seeing somebody like Brodeur play at 40 in the Stanley Cup final. I know better than to question Dom’s desire and his ability. Unfortunately, it’s not something that was going to fit here.”

There were several internet reports that he was seeking a multi-year deal.

  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Bryan Murray has spoke with Daniel Alfredsson a couple times, with last week being the most recent.

“Still no final decision on anything, but very definitely a good conversation, if I can say that. I’m just waiting to find out for sure which way we are going to go.”

“We just talked about the team, we talked about what was happening around the team, the additions and subtractions,” said Murray. “So that tells me there’s some real interest on his part, in knowing what’s going on, and I think it’s as a player. I don’t think it’s in the off-ice part of his career at this point in time.”

  • Greg Krupa of the Detroit News: Red Wings GM Ken Holland:

“So, I don’t know if people think we’re going to have major announcements this year, next year and the year after. The league doesn’t work like that.

“I’m confident, at some point — and it might be next year or the year after — that the history, the tradition, the commitment of our ownership, the passion of our fans, is going to all add up to having an opportunity to bring a player of significance here.”

According to a Swedish website, Tomas Holmstrom said several team have shown an interest. Holland intends to speak with Holmstrom soon.

  • Dave Lozo via twitter: Newly signed Panther Peter Mueller said he had other offers, but the Panthers pushed the hardest to get him.
  • Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times: Capitals Wojtek Wolski has been told they play to use him in a top 6 role.
