The Rangers sign Haley
Frank Seravalli: The New York Rangers have signed Michael Haley to a one-year, two-way deal after being in camp on a PTO.
He’ll get $700,000 in the NHL, $275,000 in the minors with $300,000 guaranteed.
Stempniak retires
NHL PA: Forward Lee Stempniak retired from the NHL after playing over 900 NHL games over 13 seasons.
Unconditional waivers
Renaud Lavoie: The Florida Panthers put Gustav Bouramman on unconditional waivers yesterday.
Claimed on waivers
Winnipeg Jets PR: The Jets claimed defenseman Carl Dahlstrom from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Pierre LeBrun: The Arizona Coyotes claimed Eric Comrie off waivers from the Jets.
On why teams may not like claiming someone on waivers
Bob McKenzie: “Something to keep in mind at this time of year. Teams don’t like to claim a player on waivers because it adds another contract without deleting one and a lot of teams are close to their 50-contract max. So a player could clear waivers but be traded shortly thereafter.”
On the Oilers not making a waiver claim
Jonathan Willis: “Contract flexibility only matters if there’s some possibility of using it. For the Oilers, it’s not a good reason to pass on Sprong or Ho-Sang or whoever unless they think there’s a chance a better player just falls into their lap, which seems improbable.”
