On the Boston Bruins …
Craig Custance of EPSN: Bruins GM Don Sweeney is still trying to improve their roster for the upcoming season. Jimmy Vesey could be one piece they’d like to add. The David Backes gives the Bruins some flexibility down the middle. If Ryan Spooner shows he can be consistent at center, Backes could move to the wing.
Sweeney had that he’s started contact extension talks with Brad Marchand, but a deal is not necessarily close.
“We’ve been talking,” Sweeney confirmed. “We want to be aggressive on that.”
The Bruins still need to upgrade their blueline. Sweeney is working the phones, but it’s not easy to make trades at this time of year.
“A lot of have taken place, a lot of them are ongoing,” Sweeney said of upgrading his defense. “You’re right. Teams aren’t anxious . They might want to see their team now in September. We’ll see. … Would I like to add another defenseman? Probably. Through a trade or whatever.”
