On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
Lance Hornby: The hearing for Jared Cowen‘s grievance with the Maple Leafs over his buyout should take place in early to mid-October. The Maple Leafs tried to buy him out in June, and Cowen claims he was still injured.
On Vladimir Sobotka …
Tom Gulitti: Sobotka had an MRI yesterday and Team Czech said that he’ll be OK. He won’t play in today’s exhibition game, but will travel to Pittsburgh and should play there.
On the Edmonton Oilers …
Darren Dreger: The Oilers signed forward Kris Versteeg to a PTO.
David Staple: Versteeg could be on their 3rd line if the Oilers decide to start Jesse Puljujarvi off in the AHL or if they possibly trade Nail Yakupov for a defenseman.
On Las Vegas …
Ken Boehlke of Sin Bin: Las Vegas owner Bill Foley said yesterday on Sportsbook Radio that they have a team name and that it will be (something) Knights.
“We went through with Adidas again last week. We have our colors picked, we have our basic logo picked, it needs some refinement. We have moved some color schemes around, and the team will be something Knights. K-n-i-g-h-t-s. We have the name. The name is trademarked, we have the domain name. That’s all I can say right now.”
An official announcement should come in mid-October, and will be one of Silver Knights, Desert Knights or Golden Knights.
On Patrick Kaleta …
John Vogl of the Buffalo News: The 30-year old Patrick Kaleta is healthy and he continues to work out in hope of another chance.
“Hopefully, I get a chance to play in the NHL,” he said in HarborCenter. “I definitely don’t think I’m washed up yet.”
Kaleta spent all of last season in the minors. He and his wife are expecting a baby in January, so he’s not interested in going to Europe.
