On the trade deadline …
Renaud Lavoie: The trade deadline is set for 3:00 pm on March 1st.
On the Buffalo Sabres …
The Instigators: Darren Dreger on Sabres RFA defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen: “It is getting closer…but it is not imminent”
On the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba …
Mark Spector of Sportsnet: The Jets won’t get fair value for defenseman Jacob Trouba before December 1st. If not signed by December 1st, Trouba can’t play in the NHL this season.
The Jets says, “You’re not productive enough to get a massive, long- term second contract, or to take Dustin Byfuglien’s power-play minutes away.”
And the players replies, “The only reason I am not more productive is because you don’t play me where I need to play.”
Team: “Earn your ice time.”
Player: “I can’t do that on the left side.”
Spector doesn’t think the Jets will trade Trouba before December 1st and that he’ll sign a one-year deal with the Jets if they continue to look for a trade.
On the Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins …
Jeff Marek of Sportsnet: The Bruins had targeted Trent Frederic in the 2016 draft. They thought they could get him in the second round, but leading up to the draft they caught wind that the Ducks – who acquired the Maple Leafs 30th overall pick – were planning on drafting Frederic. The Bruins made the decision to draft Frederic higher than they may have wanted at No. 29.
On the New Jersey Devils …
Andrew Gross: Devils coach John Hynes said they haven’t decided if they will carry eight defensemen and 13 forwards or seven defensemen and 14 forwards, or if they will carry 22 or 23 players.
On the Arizona Coyotes …
Sarah McLellan: The Coyotes could be making some cuts today, coach Dave Tippett: “We’re going to sleep on a few things & we’ll probably get things down in the morning a little bit.”
On the Los Angeles Kings …
Lisa Dillman: Rob Scuderi didn’t travel with the Kings and team officials are not commenting about his future. Will likely hear more on this on Monday.
