SEL teams can now sign NHLers … Players heading overseas or staying in N.A. update

  • Matias Strozyk via twitter: “The decision is that SEL teams must be allowed to sign whoever they want or risk being fined 20M krona. Effectively: SEL open for #NHL’ers.”
  • Matias Strozyk via twitter: Expect Alex Steen to play with Modo. Karlsson, Bäckström, Eriksson, Lundqvist, Edler, Hedman are other possibilities.
  • Slava Malamud via twitter: SKA had a verbal agreement with Vladimir Tarasenko, but he had last-minute non-financial conditions that the team couldn’t meet.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: CSKA announced they have not signed Mikhail Grabovski, Anton Volchenkov could join the team.
  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Brad Richards will be sticking around for now,

    “I am staying here for the fall,” Richards, the Rangers’ alternate captain, told The Post yesterday by email. “Not thinking about anything until at least Christmas. Going to train, skate and be ready.”

  • Matias Strozyk via twitter: Ondrej Pavelec and Ladislav Smid to Liberec, Tomas Kaberle to Kladno, Rostislav Klesla to Trinec and Sergei Bobrovsky to SKA.
  • Slava Malamud via twitter: Alexander Semin’s dad told Sport-Express that he has no KHL offers, and if nothing changes, Semin will play for is hometown Sokol Krasnoyarsk in farm league VHL.
  • Eric Stephens via twitter: Ryan Getzlaf doesn’t plan heading overseas,

    “I’m at a point now where I have a young boy at home,” he said. “It’s nice to spend time with him and I have another baby due in December. It’s kind of at a point where I don’t really have the option to go over to Europe right now with my son and one on the way.”

  • Marcel Kuchta via twitter: The SCL Tigers have signed Tyler Ennis and Jared Spurgeon.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: Ales Hemsky could play his first game with Pardubice of the CZE league on Sunday.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: Zilina of the Slovak Extraliga has been trying to sign Milan Jurcina but they can’t afford to pay the insurance.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: Pardubice is trying to find a way to pay for David Krejci’s insurance.
  • Slava Malamud via twitter: Evgeni Malkin’s Russian agent told Sport-Express that Karl Alzner, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, John Tavares and Claude Giroux are trying to get KHL deals. Stephen Whyno via twitter: Report that Alzner is looking for a KHL deal, “That’s not true.” Chris Kuc via twitter: Patrick Kane laughed when asked about playing in Russia.

  • Slava Malamud via twitter: Matallurg Novokuznetsk’s GM said they are trying to sign Dmitry Orlov, who was assigned to the AHL by the Capitals.
  • Shelly Anderson via twitter: Sidney Crosby said he’s not looking to go to Europe yet, and hasn’t compared notes with this agent about offers.
  • Bruce Garrioch via twitter: Kyle Turris has looked into playing overseas, “A matter of seeing when and where,” said Turris. “It’s definitely in the plans.”
  • Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: Jaromir Jagr told Claude Giroux to join him in Kladno but “we don’t have any money and you’ll have to pay your own insurance.”
