- Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings are still interested in Shane Doan and are willing to wait for him.
“I’ve had conversations with Shane Doan’s representatives,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “I told them we have interest.”
“We’re waiting a couple of days to see if this Jamison thing goes through,” Terry Bross, Doan’s agent, said on Monday. “Not all the petitions have been defeated. We’re waiting to see if the Jamison (deal) gets done.”
Doan is looking for a multi-year deal, and teams that are rumored to be interested include the Kings, Sharks, Canucks, Blackhawks, Penguins, Sabres and Rangers. If the Wings don’t get Doan, they may turn to Alexander Semin. Teams are reluctant to give Semin a long-term offer as clubs are concerned about his commitment. The Wings currently have 22 players signed at $53.3 million and still need to sign Kyle Quincey and Justin Abdelkader, which should cost them about $5 million. They hope to have Quincey signed before they go to arbitration. GM Holland talked with Tomas Holmstrom this week,
“I told Homer to take all the time you need,” Holland said. “If he decides he wants to play, then we’ll sit down and decide if we have (roster) space.”
- Shelly Anderson via twitter: Confirms that the Penguins have made an offer for Shane Doan, and that there is mutual interest.
- Josh Rimer via twitter: Rimer spoke with someone very close to the Doan negotiations. Still wouldn’t be surprised if Doan stays in Phoenix.
