John Shannon of Sportsnet: Shannon has been told from a reputable source that the next time Roberto Luongo plays in the NHL, it will be in a Maple Leafs uniform. Shannon doesn’t know who or what is going the other way. Shannon also said he doesn’t think Mike Gillis and Brian Burke know either. Common sense puts Luongo in Toronto because they can handle his salary and have a huge need for a veteran goalie. Shannon adds that “the deal in place is all contingent on what the new CBA says.”
Josh Rimer via twitter: Bill Watters said on Nite Cap (NSS Radio) that the Maple Leafs have made a deal for a goalie and it will be announced after the new CBA is signed. Darren Dreger via twitter: Dreger responds to the tweet by saying that Maple Leafs management said there is no deal close or made on any player.
Darren Dreger via twitter: Canucks GM Mike Gillis said that all trade rumors of Roberto Luongo to the Maple Leafs are “untrue.”
Toronto Sun: Gillis told TSN the Luongo rumors are not true. He did say that before the lockout he talked with several teams and that as many as 5 teams were in the running.
Darren Dreger via twitter: It is possible that Luongo ends up in Toronto, and the same can be said for Florida and a few others.
Darren Dreger via twitter: Gillis has vehemently denied that rumors and Dreger “can’t publicize the language Burke used to squash it. “
Mark Spector via twitter: Spector notes that we should remember that Luongo directs where he may go to. Spector doesn’t think he’ll end up on Toronto.
Darren Dreger via twitter: Sources say Nic Kerdiles suspension has been reduced to 11 games after his NCAA appeal, 30% of Wisconsin’s season.
Matias Strozyk via twitter: Cory Emmerton is flying back to North America today after he broke a finger. Could return to Finland at a later date.
