Some points from the NHLPA proposal … Oilers looking to extend Hall and Eberle … Wings looking for Dmen … Bergevin won’t talk Subban

  • Larry Brooks via twitter: From the NHLPA’s proposal to the NHL: “Clubs could go up to $4M over cap and drop to $4M under floor by adding or trading cap space.” … Teams that are in financial trouble would get extra draft picks that could be used, traded or sold. Also proposed a limit on non-player spending by teams. The NHLPA plans on submitting own proposals on systemic issues like free agency, entry level and salary arbitration. The NHLPA proposed eliminating team walkaways from salary arbitration. John Shannon via twitter: Proposal includes ability to trade salary cap space. Same amount of money/cap remains in the system but it can be traded or “bought.” It’s a minor part of the proposal and doesn’t have a lot of use, just for teams in distress.
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers are intending to sign Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle to contract extensions, and have started the process. Jeff Skinner’s 6 year deal at an $5.725 million average may be used. The Oilers may look at using John Tavares’s 5 year deal with a $5.5 million cap hit. There is nothing on the contract offer the Oilers sent Linus Omark.
  • Greg Krupa of the Detroit News: There was a report out of Calgary last week that the Red Wings offered Valtteri Filppula, Jonathan Ericsson and a prospect for Jay Bouwmeester. It’s doubtful the Wings would do this. Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle is more attractive to the Red Wings, but it would cost more to get him. The Wings have inquired about Yandle. Several defenseman who’ll be UFAs next summer that might become available at some point are Alex Edler, Ryan Whitney, Lubomir Visnovsky and Kimmo Timonen.
  • L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Canadiens GM Bergevin confirms that they are interested in Shane Doan but adds that Doan goal is to remain with the Coyotes. He didn’t visit the Canadiens.
  • Arpon Basu via twitter: Canadiens GM Bergevin won’t discuss P.K. Subban talks and he didn’t see the report that Subban rejected a 2 year offer.
  • Daniel Kaplan via twitter: The Devils lenders could put the club into bankruptcy now, but they won’t.
