- Darren Dreger: Multiple ongoing trade discussions. First deal made could open the flood gates.
- David Pagnotta: Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis on trades: “It’s a little bit quieter (on trade front) than it has been in the last 12 hours, but I expect things to pick up.”
- Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: Nobody is calling Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis about Dion Phaneuf and he doesn’t envision trading him.
“There has to be a price tag for everybody. You have to factor in everything, the on-ice play, what does a player mean to an organization, to a city, to his teammates. You throw all those things in before you decide to make a move that will impact the franchise.”
- James Mirtle: Nonis on the effect of the cap going down: “Usually you get big names out there and there’s a bunch of teams trying to pounce. That’s not the case right now.”
- James Mirtle: The Maple Leafs are willing to take on a contract and buy it out. NHL won’t frown on those types of moves.
- Todd Cordell: According to Darren Dreger, Braydon Coburn is in play with the Oilers and Hurricanes possibly interested. Dan Tancer: If Coburn is available, Tancer expects the Oilers to make a hard pitch. He’s the right age, skill set, size, etc. Doubtful the Flyers want futures, so a forward(s) that is/are cap friendly. Oilers GM Craig MacTavish would likely consider moving from No. 7 to No. 11 if the Flyers were interested in flipping picks in the deal.
- Tim Panaccio: An NHL source on the Flyers last night: “Homer has a lot of balls in the air,”
- Dustin Leed: The Flyers have talks with the Flames, Blues, Oilers, Hurricanes among others.
- Jim Matheson of Edmonton Journal: Matheson’s top 10 players who could be traded: 1. Kris Letang 2. Dion Phaneuf 3. Braydon Coburn 4. Rich Peverley 5. Dave Bolland 6. Tom Gilbert 7. Drew Stafford 8. Thomas Vanek 9. Ales Hemsky 10. Valtteri Filppula.
- Dustin Leed of The Hockey Guys: Sources are saying that the Flyers and Flames have held discussions about Matt Read. The Flyers are believed to be wanting to move up in the draft and/or obtain another first round pick. The Flames currently have the No. 6, No. 22 and No. 28.
