  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings aren’t interested in Wade Redden, but could look at Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Franson. St. James thinks that Franson could be had for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick.
  • Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Canucks GM Mike Gillis was asked if he’s waited to long to fill their vacant 2nd/3rd line center spot.

“No,” stressed Gillis. “Our position has been clear from the outset. We have one of the top players (Luongo) in one of the most difficult and one of the most influential positions in the league. We’re going to get fair return for him or we’re perfectly happy keeping him until we get fair return.

“We’ve talked about multiple scenarios and multiple teams. And because every team is coming at it from a different place, it isn’t exactly what we’re looking for. We feel confident we’re going to get what we’re looking for.”

  • Toronto Sun: NHLers on the trade block in a slideshow: Mike Cammalleri (Calgary), Jay Bouwmeester (Calgary), Corey Perry (Anaheim), Roberto Luongo (Vancouver), David Booth (Vancouver), Martin Havlat (San Jose), Kimmo Timomen (Philadelphia), Ville Leino (Buffalo), Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim), Dany Heatley (Minnesota), Ales Hemsky (Edmonton), David Krejci (Boston), Mason Raymond (Vancouver), Jonathan Bernier (Los Angeles), Jarome Iginla (Calgary)
  • Joe McDOnald and James Murphy of ESPN: There has been speculation that the Bruins could look to move David Krejci, but that is unlikely. It’s also a long-shot that they trade Tim Thomas at the trade deadline. Murphy thinks that if there is an opportunity to improve their team at the deadline, GM Peter Chiarelli wouldn’t hesitate to make a deal. Names that have made the rounds as targets could be Bobby Ryan and Keith Yandle. Milan Lucic’s name has popped up as possibly being available, his 3 years, $6 million per season contract kicks in, in 2014. Andrew Ference could also be used as trade bait.
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: There aren’t any trade options for Tim Connolly that the Maple Leafs like right now. Continuing to explore options.
  • Video link posted by @brianhuddle – At the 2012 NHL Draft, if the Maple Leafs player wasn’t there, they were offering the 5th and 35th pick to the Sabres for 12th and 21st. The Leafs ended up drafting Morgan Rielly at #5 and Matt Finn at #35. The Sabres drafted Mikhail Grigorenko at #12 traded up to #14 to get Zemgus Girgenson.
