Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune: The Wild have put center Zenon Konopka of waivers today. Coach Yeo said it was because they needed to call up a goalie (recalled Darcy Kuemper. Josh Harding not ready yet.), but Russo doesn’t buy that. Michael Rupp could have been put on waivers. Keith Ballard will be a healthy scratch as they activated Clayton Stoner. They could have kept Stoner on the IR for one more game. They could have also returned Stephane Veilleux to the minors.
Gary Lawless: Lawless wonders if the Jets will put a claim in on Konopka. He’d bring an element they are missing. Good on the faceoffs and carries a $925,000 cap hit.
Mark Spector: Spector responds to Lawless saying how he doesn’t see how Konopka gets past the Oilers or Flames: “Cheap, tough, wins face-offs. 4th line C.”
Mark Spector: Spector does note that both the Oilers and Flames have had a couple chances to sign Konopka in the past and didn’t show much interest in doing so.
