On the Boston Bruins …

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe: Forward David Backes took a big hit from the Lightning’s J.T. Miller in the second period yesterday and didn’t return to the game.

“I don’t know,” said coach Bruce Cassidy, asked if Backes was concussed on the play. “Obviously, there will be a report on him. Upper body, and that’s the best I’ve got.”

Backes has had numerous concussions during his career.

Dan Rosen: J.T. Miller on the hit: “I kind of eased up at the last second because he knows he doesn’t know I’m coming. I was sick to my stomach when I saw him not being able to use his legs there for a little bit. I hope he’s OK. I want to acknowledge that. I don’t play dirty. I don’t target heads. I hope people know that. I have a lot of respect for him. I grew up as a teenager watching that guy play so I really hope he’s OK. It just sucks to see him stay on the ice like that. I’m just trying to play physical. I think he knows I’m a physical player. I was amped and it turns into a gross feeling when you see he wasn’t moving too well. I hope he’s alright.”

On the Philadephia Flyers …

Sam Carchidi: GM Ron Hextall said that forward Wayne Simmonds and goaltender Michal Neuvirth had surgery last Tuesday. He didn’t get any other info.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Paul Gackle of The Mercury News: Forward Evander Kane played but was bothered by an upper-body injury. He said before the game that he was “good enough to play.”

Kevin Kurz: Kane said that he had a separated shoulder and early had an MCL injury.

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Steve Carp: Forward William Carrier wasn’t able to go last night in Game 6.

On the Washington Capitals …

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Coach Barry Trotz said that defenseman John Carlson will be “fine” for tonight’s game. Andre Burakovsky didn’t travel with the team to Pittsburgh.

Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: Forward Nicklas Backstrom suffered an upper-body injury on Saturday night, but is expected to play tonight.

“He got some maintenance today,” Trotz said Sunday. “We’ll see where he is tomorrow.”

Backstrom didn’t play the final seven minutes on Saturday and he seemed to bothered by something for most of the game.
