On the Boston Bruins and Loui Eriksson …
- DJ Bean of WEEI: Bruins coach Claude Julien is a big fan of Loui Eriksson, but realizes that if he doesn’t sign an extension with the Bruins, he could be dealt despite the Bruins trying to make the playoffs.
“That depends,” Julien said. “Do you get something in return? Is that something in return something that would help our team? We don’t know that, so I can’t answer that and I don’t think that question is a good thing for me to answer because who knows if he’s going who knows what we’d get back? I can’t answer it until something happens. Hopefully nothing.”
Source saying the Bruins and Eriksson’s camp have had some talks, but the Bruins haven’t made a contract offer recently. Word is the Bruins made an offer before Christmas, but Eriksson’s camp felt the term and salary were too low to negotiate off of. Source saying the offer may have been made “more to simply get things initiated.” Eriksson’s agent, J.P. Barry, as spoken with the Bruins since then, and are awaiting the Bruins to engage in more serious talks.
Eriksson has a partial no-trade clause – 14 teams in which he’d accept a trade to.
- Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: The Bruins would like to keep Loui Eriksson, he’d like to remain in Boston, but it’s not that easy. He’s looking for a five or six year deal at around $6 million.
He gave the Bruins his list of 14 teams he’d accept a trade to before the season started and he said that it has not changed.
“I’m just trying to focus on my game and try to help the team as much as I can and play good,” Eriksson said after practice yesterday at the Garden, deflecting any other questions on specifics. “All the other things I can’t control right now. All I can do is just go out there and play hockey and help the team. That’s all I’m going to focus on.”
