- Renaud Lavoie: Jaromir Jagr’s agent, Peter Svoboda, will meet with Panthers GM Dale Tallon today to discuss a contract extension.
- George Richards: Should have an update today regarding the Panther GM Dale Tallon and Jaromir Jagr contract extension talks.
- Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: When asked if Vincent Lecavalier would ask the Flyers for a buyout his remaining three years and $10.5 million.
“I’m not gonna get into that,” Lecavalier said. “That’s definitely not my decision, even if I did ask or not ask. I want to play. I want to honor the rest of my contract. I feel like I can still produce in this league. I’m 35 years old. I feel like I’ve trained my whole career to extend those years and feel good when I’m 35, 36, 37 years old. I feel like it’s not a matter of not having legs or anything like that. I was never a really fast guy. I was always about the same speed. I feel good. Maybe it’s just a better opportunity I need.”
- Jim Matheson: “By reading twitter, Edm in running for every available college free-agent. When your’re 28th, you go after everybody, of course.#oilers.”
- Ryan Kennedy: Caleb Jones (Seth Jones’s brother and 2015 draft prospect), won’t decide on whether to go to the CHL or NCAA next season on until after the U18s.
- Mark Spector: Matt O’Connor will play again today. The Senators, Rangers, Sabres and Oilers are on the short-list. The Canucks and Flames are still in on him.
- Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on 630 CHED on the Ducks potential offseason goalie situation.
“I think one of the interesting things about the Ducks is they hold the key to I think a lot of off-season goaltending decisions. They’ve had a lot of teams – I think Edmonton has been one of them. Buffalo, Toronto have been among the teams that call them and say, ‘What are you doing with Andersen and Gibson? What’s your plan? How much longer until you decide you have to move one of them?’
“Knowing the Ducks being kind of a budget team, I think their preference is the two of them combined next year make $1.9 million under the cap. So I think that’s their goal, is to keep them together for one more year.
“But if they have a terrible playoff, and you can see a situation where they might, I wonder if all bets are off and one of those two guys goes.
“So I think Bob Murray has a lot of control over how the goaltender market is going to work this summer.”
Friedman on Vladimir Sobotka.
“Sobotka is going to be an interesting one there because I think there’s going to be… if you think you can sign him – and I’ve heard he’s looking for about between 3 and 3.5 a year over three years – you can get him.
“It all depends on what St. Louis wants to do. Do they look after the playoffs this year and say, ‘Okay, we’re going to keep him.’ Because there’s been a lot of bad blood there.
“But if not, if you’re willing to commit three years, somewhere between $9.5-10 million – you’ll probably get the deal done and I think he’d be a perfect fit for a team like Edmonton. I think he could do a lot of good for you guys.”
