Jim Rutherford: Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen had a CT scan yesterday. A prognosis won’t be known until Monday.
Harvey Fialkov of the Sun-Sentinel: Panthers Kris Versteeg skated yesterday for the first time since undergoing major ACL surgery last year. He was expected to miss the first month of the season, but expressed optimism of being able to start the season.
“Going at it a day at a time. I think the progression’s been pretty good,’’ said Versteeg, who has been skating for four weeks home in Lethbridge, B.C. “The rehab’s been there. It’s a long process but I my goal is to be ready for the start of the season. I don’t want to hop into a regular-season game without knowing what training camp is like but I think I’ll be in there for most of it.’’
