NHL and NHLPA to meet today … NHL showing willingness to ‘make whole’

  • Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Bill Daly and Steve Fehr will have a meeting today at an undisclosed location to continue bargaining talks. David Pagnotta via twitter: Both sides have made progress this week, but there is still much work to do.
  • John Shannon via twitter: Shannon confirms that the NHL offered the NHLPA to make players whole out of the owners share.
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: The ‘make whole’ verbal offer was made to the NHLPA on Tuesday, but the PA wants more details about it before getting too excited.
  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The NHL has showed a willingness to honor all existing contracts through the ‘make whole’ provision. A source said the NHL will supply the money to the players to ‘make whole’ work. Both sides would need to agree upon the amount and method of payment. There are numerous other elements of the framework that will need to be worked out as well.
  • Renaud Lavoie via twitter: The NHLPA doesn’t have all the details of the NHL’s ‘make whole’ provision.
  • Allan Walsh via twitter: “There is no new NHL proposal. Don’t take my word for it. Proof will be when truth comes out in next few days, people will realize real purpose behind Dreger report.”
  • David Pagnotta via twitter: The NHL has not presented a formal offer with ‘make whole,’ but it was discussed between both sides.
