2019 first-round picks

Jim Matheson: From one GM who was watching the Hlink Gretzky tournament this year: “Nobody’s trading their first-round draft picks for 2019.”

Note: Three first-round picks have already been traded. Ottawa owes Colorado a first, and Buffalo could get first from St. Louis and San Jose – both have some protection.

Could Seguin become available?

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin was eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st. The Stars were also one of the teams that were in on John Tavares talks.

Is it possible that Seguin might not be back with the Stars next year and could they consider trading him or could he become a free agent next July?

Would the Bruins be interested in bringing him back if he were to become available?

Haggerty notes that there is no questioning his skill, but signing him to a huge contract would come with risks – lateness for practices sometimes and potential other minor infractions. would pass on Seguin, and adds he’s “a very-good player on a bad team.”

Pacioretty appreciates the support

TVA Sports: (via google translate) Montreal Canadiens winger Max Pacioretty now calls Montreal home, and it hasn’t been easy for him with all the trade rumors, but he’s appreciated the support.

“This summer has opened my eyes especially. I always knew I could count on the support of people, but there are so many good people and good people, he said. I met a lot of friends in this city that I consider as members of my family now. Every day that passes, I meet someone who has positive things to say to me. It is really encouraging.”

Pacioretty missed the last month of the season with a lower-body injury and got back on the ice about three weeks ago. He’s behind his normal offseason schedule, but he’s accelerated his pace.
