The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded for goaltender Louis Domingue. The Lightning send goaltender Michael Leighton and forward Tye McGinn to the Arizona Coyotes.
The 25-year old Domingue was drafted 138th overall in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by the Coyotes.
The 36-year old Leighton was drafted 165th overall in the sixth round of the 1999 draft by the Blackhawks.
The 27-year old McGinn was drafted 119th overall in the fourth round of the 2010 draft by the Flyers.
Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM John Chayka on trading Domingue: “Happy to find an opportunity to give Louis a fresh start. It’s a deal that creates some flexibility for us. We have three good young goalies in Tucson that we think are great prospects. It’s a good problem to have, but we need to manage it properly.”
Frank Seravalli: The Coyotes were looking to get rid of Domingue’s $1.05 million salary. Leighton gets $300,000 in the AHL and McGinn making $225,000.
Cap Friendly: “All 3 players involved in the deal were playing in the AHL at the time of the trade. Such being the case, the players new club now has the option to reassign them directly to the minors without needing to pass through waivers first.”
