The 25-year-old Swede was awarded $3.75 Million in salary arbitration last summer after posting his first 20 goal season. Johansson’s offensive totals were nearly identical this season and going to arbitration again one year away from unrestricted free agency is possible.
The Caps have UFA Jason Chimera, RFA’s Dmitri Orlov and Tom Wilson to re-sign this summer and can offer extensions to TJ Oshie and Evgeni Kuznetsov after July 1, so GM Brian McClellan has to decide whether to sign Johansson and buy up unrestricted years or move him for draft picks or prospects.
