The big Danish netminder was the go-to guy during the Ducks 2015 run to the Western Conference Final, split duties with 22-year-old wunderkind John Gibson during the regular season and took over for Gibson after losing the first two games against Nashville.

Ducks GM Bob Murray gave a three-year bridge deal to Gibson last September and Andersen could demand more than $4 Million on a new contract. Murray may not be willing to spend that with defensemen Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm also needing new contracts. The possibility of expansion and being able to protect one goalie could also factor in the Ducks decision to make a preemptive move.
