Matt Dumba – Defenseman

2015 – 16 Cap Hit: $894,167
Age: 21
Drafted: 7th overall in 2012

Minnesota’s 2012 top pick had a breakout offensive season, with 10 goals and 16 assists in 81 games in the final year of his entry-level deal. GM Chuck Fletcher ideally would like to get the 21-year-old defenseman signed to a long-term extension and the contract signed by Toronto’s Morgan Rielly (six years, $30 Million) could be a comparable.

The Wild are hampered by a number of lengthy and expensive contracts – Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu, Ryan Suter. Their limited cap space could make them vulnerable to an offer sheet or force them to move defenseman Jonas Brodin to make room for Dumba.
