  • Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. said he would entertain offers for the majority stake in the team.

“I’m 71 years old, and at 71 you start planning stuff like that,” Karmanos said. “I’m looking for the proper way to make sure the team has continuity, hopefully with people in North Carolina.”

He would keep an investment firm to negotiate the gradual buyout of his stake so that he can control the team for a few more years. Forbes valued the team at $187 million but Karmanos thinks the proper price is around $400 million.

  • Jim Baumbach: More paperwork has been filed with the courts regarding the Charles Wang – Andrew Barroway lawsuit over the Islanders sale.
  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning’s Jonathan Drouin had more testing yesterday and showed little improvement with him upper-body injury. He may miss the rest of this week.
  • Mike Ziesberger: Gary Bettman said the NHL has been doing serious concussion research since 1997.
  • Gary Lawless: VP of hockey operations, Colin Campbell, said that the NHL has given linesmen “direction to stop fights when players take helmets off if they can.”
  • Kristen Odland: Sounding like Flames center, Mikael Backlund’s ab strain injury is worse than they had originally thought. Head coach Bob Hartley is a little worried.
  • Hope Smoke: Ray Ferraro: “I can’t blame Joe Thornton . How many players would have sat there and not said anything?” … “When the Sharks went up 3-0 was there any talk of a rebuild?” … “I think D.Wilson talked himself into a corner when he started talking rebuild” … “The only change I see is them moving Burns back to D.” … “That’s a still a good team. It’s like they’re almost undermining themselves.” … “Wilson signed all those guys to NTC. You lost 4 straight and you want to move them all now & look to tomorrow?” … “It sounds like panic and I don’t understand it.” …  “They’ve assembled a great team & brought the Cup champs as far to the brink as anyone last spring” … “Why not infuse more youth like they did last year with Hertl & are doing with Mueller?” … “I don’t understand why you take a really good team and put their backs against the wall.”
