- Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Wild’s Mikael Granlund could be looking for a bridge contract in the $3.5 – $4 million range. Granlund could be a $6 million in three or four years.
- Tim Panaccio: Ryan Whitney’s agent said there is “no truth” to the rumor that the Flyers offered a contract.
- Bob McKenzie: Sea Bass, a.k.a. Cam Neely, will have a scene in ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ towards the end of the movie. The movie will be out on November 14th.
- Bob McKenzie: Sharks John Scott was penalized under Rule 73 (misconduct for leaving the bench on a legal line change to start an altercation). The Department of Player Safety will now determine if there will be a suspension and for how many games. It doesn’t call for an automatic suspension.
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: Paul Bissonnette will be signing a PTO with the Coyotes AHL affiliate in Portland. It will be for 25 games and he can be released at any point. Bissonnette had signed with the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK, where he played during the lockout.
- Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: Oilers coach Dallas Eakins may not be on the hot seat as much as he was at the start of last week, as they may have been preparing for a change behind the bench. They were “sniffing around” Mark Messier.Mark Hunter is looking to become a NHL GM at some point and it was one of the reasons he took the job as the Maple Leafs director of player personnel.Simmons wonders if the Leafs were scouting Oilers Jeff Petry last weekend when GM Dave Nonis was in Edmonton.
- Helene Elliott of the LA Times: Slava Voynov’s wife is back living with him and doesn’t want to have him charged.
“She’s not asking for charges to be pressed,” attorney Michael J. Walsh of Irvine said in a telephone interview. “She’s not hoping that the police are going to prosecute the case because she doesn’t think that Slava was trying to hurt her and doesn’t think a crime was committed against her.”
“She didn’t ask for charges to be pressed. She didn’t feel threatened by her husband,” Walsh said. “She was not expecting him to be arrested at the hospital — in fact, she was asking to have him come in and help her communicate with the medical personnel and the police. He’s a better English speaker than she is.
“They’re both native Russian speakers and they prefer speaking Russian all the time.”
- Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Predators GM David Poile didn’t think the Penguins should have fired Ray Shero and thinks it’s only a matter of time before he’s a GM in the league again.
“He’s the next guy up, if you will,” Poile said. “I talk with Ray all the time. He’s focused on being a manager again. I think he’s in a real good place. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll be the candidate when jobs open up. It’s almost automatic that he’d be the guy. There really isn’t anyone else out there with his credentials.”
- Rick Westhead of TSN: MLSE reportedly have shortened their Tim Leiweke replacement list down to between six and 12 candidates. Former MSG executive Hank Ratner could be the favorite to land the job according to two sources. They have interviewed NHL executvie John Collins and CFL commissioner Mark Cohon. Source saying that neither will likely be hired by MLSE.
