- Toronto Maple Leafs: The Maple Leafs have acquired forward Zach Hyman and a 2017 conditional seventh round pick from the Florida Panthers for forward Greg McKegg.
- Elliotte Friedman: Condition on the pick is if Hyman doesn’t sign.
- Andy Strickland: The Maple Leafs now have until August 15th to sign Hyman or he will become a free agent.
- George Richards: Talk is the Panthers could have signed Hyman if they would have kept him in the NHL in March and April, and skipping the AHL. GM Dale Tallon said no.
- Lance Hornby: Hyman was a first team All American last season and led the Big 10 in scoring with 54 points. He is from the Toronto area.
- Paul Matiychuk: Leafs assistant GM Kyle Dubas was Hyman’s ‘advisor.’ There were reports a few months ago that they may have been interested in signing him if he became a free agent.
- Elliotte Friedman: The Leafs have until August 15th to sign him. They were granted permission to speak with Hyman yesterday. Would expect a deal to get done. Hyman is eligible to sign a two-year entry level contract.
The 23-year old Hyman was drafted 123rd overall in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by the Panthers.
The 23-year old McKegg was drafted 62nd overall in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Leafs.
