Garrioch rumor roundup …
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: A source said it wouldn’t be a surprise if Travis Hamonic finished the season with the Islanders, and then traded at the draft.
“I think there’s an understanding between (Hamonic) and the Isles that he may have to play the whole year there,” said the source. “Not that he has a choice anyway. This thing just got public before they wanted.”
Belief is that GM Garth Snow won’t bend on his asking price. Some teams didn’t hear about Hamonic’s potential availability until word was leaked.
- The Jets have been shopping defenseman Tobias Enstrom and his $5.75 million cap hit that runs through the end of next season. The Jets need to move Enstrom’s contract to help give them space to potentially re-sign Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd.
- Talk is the Ducks have been checking around to see what Andrew Cogliano’s trade market/value is. He has two years left on his deal at a $3 million cap hit.
- The Ducks would want a boatload if they were going to trade Cam Fowler.
- A league executive in a text: “It’s impossible to make a trade. Very little talk even going on. Will heat up after (Christmas).”
- Another executive said that it’s even next to impossible to trade AHL contracts unless they are dollar-for-dollar.
On the Jets, Islanders and Avs …
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Brooks wonders if the Islanders and Jets could do a multi-player trade that would include Jacob Trouba or Tyler Myers and pending UFA Dustin Byfuglien for Travis Hamonic and one or two top prospects. Could the Islanders include pending UFA Kyle Okposo? Lots of reasons why that wouldn’t work though.
- What could the could the Avalanche include with Tyson Barrie to get the Islanders to send Hamonic to Colorado?
On the Coyotes …
- Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: Two sources have said that the Arizona Coyotes have reached out to former Toronto Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos about a senior or consulting position. Anthopoulos won’t make any decision until late December or early January.
