NHL Rumors: Flyers, Islanders and Coyotes

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: Brayden Schenn and the Flyers have their arbitration hearing set for tomorrow morning.

They are $1.19 million apart with their offers. Reports are that Schenn asked for a one-year deal at $5.5 million, with the Flyers offering a two-year deal with a $4.31 million cap hit.

They could still do a longer term deal before the hearing.

“You want to be here long-term,” Schenn said back in April. “I believe in this team. I believe in the guys in that locker room. I guess we’ll see what happens, see how it plays out. I’ve been here for, jeez, five years now. If they want to go long-term with me, obviously I want to be a part of this team.”

Schenn was open to the idea of negotiating during the season, but GM Ron Hextall wasn’t interested in doing that.

Tim Panaccio: The Flyers arbitration offer for Schenn is for $4.25 million and $4.369 million, Schenn asking for $5.5 million.

Sam Carchidi: Guessing the Flyers sign Schenn to a four year contract with a salary cap hit of $4.9 million.

On the New York Islanders …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Brooks wonders with all the Islanders arena talk that is going on, and will continue going on, what impact will it have on John Tavares‘ decision making process. He’ll be a UFA after the 2017-18 season. Would Tavares commit to the Islanders long-term if they could be homeless in a couple years? He could name his price in Toronto if he chooses.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM John Chayka said that their added depth on the blueline gives them options, including the possibility of trading one of their current pieces.

Craig Morgan: Chayka said that contract talks with RFAs Connor Murphy and Tobias Rieder are progressing. Murphy talks are further along that Rieder talks. He expects both to sign.

Craig Morgan: Chayka added that defenseman Michael Stone‘s minimum six-month rehab is either on time or ahead of schedule. It is too early to project when he will return.
