On the Vancouver Canucks …
Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Canucks forward Bo Horvat will be a restricted free agent after the season, and he admits that he’s thought about it. There haven’t been any contract talks yet, and there won’t be until the season is over.
“I think about it,” Horvat says. “It’s definitely in the back of your mind. For me, to go play my game and not think about it right now, just go play the end of the season and not worry about it is going to help me and the team. It’s out of my hands. It’s in my agent’s hands and Jim and that staff. My thing is, go play hockey.”
Fox wonders if Horvat waits for other pending RFAs to set the market – Leon Draisaitl, Mikael Granlund, Ryan Johansen, Tyler Johnson, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Galchenyuk.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Chris Nichols FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger on Thursday on the Ottawa Senators and Curtis Lazar.
“Teams are calling Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion,” explained Dreger. “They’re asking about Curtis Lazar. He’s still in his entry-level contract. The Sens are interested in listening to the offers that will and are coming in, but they don’t want to give up on this young guy just yet. He’s having a tough year in Ottawa. The asking price, if they’re willing to make that deal, I’m told is extremely high.”
Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 on Friday. He thinks teams are calling the Senators and asking them what they are thinking and planning for Lazar. Lazar was drafted 17th overall by the Senators in the 2013 draft.
“I think the Senators are wary about that,” said Friedman. “You don’t want to see a guy get traded and find his life somewhere else. So everything I understand is that his price is still high, and they’re not treating him as just a regular depth player.”
