On the Dallas Stars and the Anaheim Ducks …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friendman was on NHL Network and was asked what the Stars might get for their third overall pick.
“I think it’s going to come down to is there a defenseman that really entices the Dallas Stars in order for them to part with that pick,” said Friedman during a Tuesday afternoon appearance on NHL Network. “And that’s what it sounds like it’s going to come down to. Jim Nill is on the record saying there have been conversations about it. He is willing to do it. And the word around the league is if you’ve got a defenseman on your blueline who can make a difference and you’re willing to part with that person, you could have a deal there.”
The Ducks and Wild could do this type of deal if they wanted.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friendman was on NHL Network talking about the Anaheim Ducks and the decisions they have to make this offseason. A lot of their decisions will have to do with if they think they can sign Cam Fowler to a contract extension. If they think they can, they may look to trade someone else or expose a different player. If they don’t think they can sign him, they may look to move him.
“It’s going to take a big number. I was talking with a couple of other GMs last week and they said that if Fowler hits the market, he’s probably a $56 million guy – 8 X 7.”
Friedman on the Ducks expansion decisions.
“I don’t think there’s any desire to leave Manson unprotected. I think they really love what they have coming in both Theodore and Montour. And I wonder if Vatanen ends up being the guy if it’s not Fowler – if Vatanen ends up being the guy that a lot of teams look at and say, ‘He’s the guy we’re interested in.’
“And hey, if you were Dallas and Anaheim, would you do Vatanen for the third overall pick?”
