Ottawa Senators still trying to move Dion Phaneuf

On the Ottawa Senators and Dion Phaneuf …

Bob McKenzie: The Dreger reported earlier today, the Senators are getting interest in defenseman from teams not on Dion Phaneuf’s approved list.

Bob McKenzie: Senators GM Pierre Dorion has had multiple talks on the draft floor with Phaneuf’s reps.

Bob McKenzie: Whether a Phaneuf gets traded at the draft remains to be seen. It’s clear that if the Senators can move him and his salary, they will do it.

Bob McKenzie: A potential Phaneuf trade could also go down after July 1st.

On the Vegas Golden Knights and Marc Methot …

Bob McKenzie: The Golden Knights are in a similar situation with Marc Methot as the Senators are with Dion Phaneuf. Methot hasn’t agreed to waive his no-trade clause for teams that have been interested in trading for him.

On the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs …

Andy Graziano: What may have held up an Islanders – Maple Leafs trade is that James van Riemsdyk willingness to waive his no-trade clause (modified) and agree to a contract extension.

Brian Compton: Friedman said that the Islanders and Maple Leafs were talking “bigger” deal.

On Marco Scandella and Sami Vatanen …

David Pagnotta: Now that Travis Hamonic has been traded, is Wild defenseman Marco Scandella next? Trade talks involving Sami Vatanen have cooled.

On the Calgary Flames …

Frank Seravalli: Even after trading for defenseman Hamonic, GM Brad Treliving said that he’d like to continue talking with unrestricted free agent Michael Stone and find a way to bring him back next year.
