Michael Russo of The Athletic: Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno is skating with teammates, but is still without a contract. That could be changing soon.
“I think we’re very close,” said Foligno, who moved into his new home in Minneapolis on Tuesday night. “It’s just fine tuning some things. I’ve got no worries about signing before training camp. It’s just great to be here, to meet the guys and get acclimated to Minnesota.”
The Wild have been looking to sign Foligno to a three-year deal. A one-year deal is also an option if they can’t get the money to work on a three-year deal.
The Wild have around $3.7 million in salary cap space, but they’d like to have some extra space for any in-season moves.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 yesterday and was talking about the Detroit Red Wings and what assets they have that might help them with their rebuild.
Friedman notes that Mike Green is in the last year of his deal and if he’s playing well, there will be lots of interest. Green might not be only player teams are interested in.
“I’ll tell you this: I wonder about a guy like Riley Sheahan, if he gets dealt,” continued Friedman. “There are a lot of people who really think that last year it was not that guy, that there’s a lot more there. I think even the Red Wings felt there was a lot more there.
“They’ve got a glut right now. They still have to sign Athanasiou. I wonder about a guy like Sheahan. I know Toronto really looked at him hard last year because they believed there was a lot more there. I’m curious to see if Sheahan starts the year in Detroit or someone else says, ‘We’re going to give him a chance,’ because I think there’s a lot of people in hockey who look at last year and say, ‘That is not that kid. There’s a lot more there.’ “
