On the Boston Bruins …
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada Headlines last night on Zdeno Chara.
“There have been some rumblings that some teams have asked the Bruins about him, would they consider moving him this year,” Friedman said. “(Bruins GM) Don Sweeny said again today that he is not planning on moving him and he does plan on re-signing him.”
Zdeno Chara said last month that he wants to continue playing and with the Bruins.
On the Detroit Red Wings …
Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos on Hockey Night in Canada Headlines last night on Detroit Red Wings restricted free agent Andreas Athanasiou.
“(The Red Wings) have also made it clear that there is no appetite to trade him,” Kypreos said. “They like him, they see him in their plans. They want to move forward.”
The Wings and Athanasiou’s agent will speak again this week and some decision will be made – either playing in the NHL or signing with a team in Europe.
On the Colorado Avalanche …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 and was asked if he thinks the Avs-Matt Duchene trade situation could go away if they continue to win. Friedman thinks they are still looking to trade him.
“I get the sense that what is going on here is that I think they’re going to hold him for a bit – I mean, famous last words, I’ll hang up and he gets traded – but I think they’re going to hold him for a bit. But what I think they’re going to do is they’re going to do some pretty heavy scouting of team prospects. I think it’s possible now that teams may not want to give some stuff up off their roster, so I think what they could be doing is looking at some guys who may be in juniors or the NCAA or the minors. Guys who are legit prospects, but simply aren’t ready yet or aren’t at the NHL level yet. And that takes time. I did get some indication this week that that could be happening.”
doesn’t think Duchene will come to a point where he doesn’t want to be moved. Not a 100 percent certain on that, but seems unlikely that he’d want to stay.
