On the Colorado Avalanche …
Adrian Dater: Hearing that it’s highly likely that the Avalanche will allow forward Tyson Jost to play for Team Canada for the World Juniors.
On the Detroit Red Wings …
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: (mailbag) If the Red Wings think that they can make the playoffs at the trade deadline, they likely won’t look to trade defenseman Mike Green. If they believe they won’t make it, GM Ken Holland will likely look to move him.
At last year’s trade deadline the Wings got a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Brendan Smith. Mike Green has a higher offensive upside and contenders that are looking for offense from the blue line should come calling.
If Henrik Zetterberg were to retire at the end of the end of the season, the Red Wings would be penalized with a cap recapture penalty.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1200 yesterday talking about the Ottawa Senators and GM Pierre Dorion. Dorion as already made a big move to bring in Matt Duchene, and he’s likely still aggressively working the phones.
“What you have to wonder about though is how much more aggressive can he be. And if he’s calling teams, what is he willing to part with. Are we talking about a prospect like Colin White. Are we talking about a bigger piece from his blueline. I don’t know. That, again, is just the start of the speculation that swirls around a club that is mired in a real significant funk.
“But as I said, there’s nothing specific out there as far as I know that’s connecting the Ottawa Senators to any trade speculation, but knowing Dorion and how he operates, how he works, like I do – as I said, he’s not going to sit back and let this thing continue to spiral downwards.”
