Gardiner turned down a Canadiens offer early in the offseason

Alexandre Pratt: Back in early July free agent defenseman Jake Gardiner turned down a three-year contract offer from the Montreal Canadiens that was worth $15.75 million – a $5.75 million AAV.

Devils lock up Zacha for three years

Mike Morreale: The New Jersey Devils re-signed forward Pavel Zacha to a three-year worth $6.75 million, a $2.25 million salary cap hit.

Puck Pedia: After the Zacha signing, with a 24-man roster the Devils have $4.67 million in salary cap space.

Zacha re-signs with NJD for 3 yrs at $2.25 mil AAV.

He was buried in shot share last year (as many of his teammates were), contributed a negative WAR value, didn’t facilitate offense, and overproduced his xG.https://t.co/OqgB8erZWZ pic.twitter.com/wMYBcGRO2d

Bergeron dealing with a groin issue

NHL Fantasy on Ice: Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron is dealing with a bit of a groin issue and could limit him during their training camp. He said that he’ll “definitely” be ready for the start of the regular season.

Dobson could make the Islanders

Brian Compton: The New York Islanders have depth on the blue line but coach Barry Trotz said that Noah Dobson does have a shot at making the team: “If he’s ready, and the organization feels he’s ready, you have assets and you have to just figure out where that goes.”

Beleskey may not even make it to the Rangers camp

Larry Brooks: Have heard that the New York Rangers will assign Matt Beleskey directly to their AHL camp and he won’t be at their main camp at all. He would carry a $825,000 cap hit for the Rangers.

Matthews on the report saying he would leave in five years

TSN: Auston Matthews on the report last month that was saying he was going to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs in five years when his contract is up.

“It’s a little bit disappointing … I think it’s just August, there was nothing going on, why not just spark up a controversy. How better to do that than to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs.”
