Host: “Yep, and last one for you, you mentioned Coleman? I know he’s hurt right now. Don’t know exactly when he’s going to return from IR with the upper body injury he’s dealing with. But does that become a guy that you expect, we’ve heard all kinds of buzz around him already. How much more does that pick up as we move towards the Olympic break and then towards the deadline?”
NHL Rumors: 20 teams have inquired about Blake Coleman
Elliotte Friedman: “Well, I think that, I think it’ll pick up. I mean, the one thing about that is that Coleman has indicated he’d prefer to stay. And I think that Calgary understands that, but I think they’ll do what they feel is best for their group. He has a lot of say. I think he can only be traded to 10 teams. I’m not sure how flexible he is on that, if at all.
Like, I had, like, there’s been a lot of rumors about Coleman with Montreal. One of the things that somebody told me was that they weren’t sure if he was, that was one team that he would have to approve. And I don’t think everybody was certain if he was willing to do that. Like some guys just say the list is the list, and that’s the way it is, right? So, I’m not certain that Montreal is going to be a potential destination for him.
Like, the thing about Andersson is the Flames had to make a decision. They weren’t going to extend him at what he wanted. They were going to move on. So this is one they had to do sooner rather than later. And this is a guy who plays a ton.
NHL Rumors: What Are the Calgary Flames Looking to get for Blake Coleman and Rasmus Andersson
I think they were worried about the injury risk with some of the other players here. They don’t have to do anything right now, and all of a sudden, the Flames could have Vegas’s next three first-rounders, right?
So, I mean, like they have pieces that they can continue to rebuild with. We’ll see where this year goes. But they’re going to have another potentially high first-round pick this year. We’ll see. I mean, Andersson is a big loss on that blue line. Played great this season. I just think this is the one that had to get done the fastest. And now we’ll see.”
