NHL Rumors: Can the Sabres Get Alex Tuch Re-Signed?
Host: “So Jim, we live in a little bit of a bizarre world here. Two months ago, we probably would have been talking about an incredible fire sale with the Sabres. Now, Alex Tuch is the giant question mark going forward. Does he stay on with this organization? Does he take his skills elsewhere? Only time will tell, but the Sabres are sitting right now third in the Atlantic.
Odd question, didn’t think I’d be asking this question, do the Sabres try to do anything between now and the deadline? Or they’re just saying to themselves, we’re just playing with house money.”
Jim Biringer: “I mean, I think their biggest priority right now is to sign Alex Tuch. To see if they could get an extension worked out before the deadline. And you can’t let them go to free agency or let him walk for nothing, considering this amazing run they’re on.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jarmo Kekäläinen just roll with what he has, to be honest, because he’s done that before. We saw it in Columbus, when he had all those free agents (Artemi) Panarin being one of them, (Sergei) Bobrovsky, Matt Duchene, like he just let them roll and go into the playoffs.
Buffalo’s playing really well right now and again. They still have to make me a believer, and them making the playoffs, but it’s starting to turn the other way. Hey, this is a playoff team. I wouldn’t be shocked to see that.
NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, and the Calgary Flames
The people I talked to around the league that Buffalo is going to stay on top, but they’re going to add some complementary pieces to go along with this group, because they like what they have in that room right now. And ever since Jarmo has taken over, there’s just been this new attitude with this group. There’s a belief and they feel that they can make the playoffs.
And maybe Jarmo gets a little aggressive, not too much, but he makes a smart hockey trade to just give this team a fighting chance to maybe make a run in the playoffs.”
