NHL Rumors: How Long Can Filip Hronek Maintain His Maximum Trade Value?

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek has been playing well this season. How long do the Canucks hold on to his maximum trade value as they rebuild?

How long do the Vancouver Canucks hold on to Filip Hronek?

Sportsnet 650: Satiar Shah and Bik Nizzar discuss how much longer the Vancouver Canucks should hold onto defenseman Filip Hronek. When looking to maximize his return, maybe the equivalent of two first-round picks, how long can he maintain that maximum value?

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Shah: “And I’ve come around big. I’m like, you know what? Like, I think you do have to maximize the value on Filip Hronek. The question just comes down to how much longer does he maintain this value?

I think we’d all, you know, love to see an early trade in the offseason, based on how the Canucks have spoken about Filip Hronek, his leadership, his qualities, how he’s been more forward-facing with the media and taken on a bigger leadership role. It doesn’t seem like he’s going to be traded this offseason. He’ll be here at least start of next year.

NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars Look to Sign Jason Robertson in the Summer

So my question to you is Bik, for how much longer will he retain this maximum value? And, of course, injuries, production, how you play, all those things matter. But if that’s equal, he’s healthy, and he’s still playing at the level that he’s been playing at for at least another year or two, for how much longer could he have the value, which could potentially be that of two first-round picks?”

Nizzar: “Well, the production thing is actually the thing I almost worry about the least, because the power play time hasn’t been there for him over the course of these seasons, right? And now, when you take a bigger role in that, does that help bring a floor to what the production could be? So as far as, like, maintaining a certain level of easy getting to 35 to 40 plus points, you’d expect that to be there if he can hold off a Zeev Buium on the power play.

And I think there’s always going to be for a young player like Zeev, a couple of down spots in your sophomore seasons and beyond. So there’s always gonna be the quick. Oh well, we have a veteran who’s very capable on the power play, you can put him. So you’d expect there to be regular power play time for Filip Hronek here moving forward.

So that part, to me, shows that it will probably hold firm for some time. It’s just a matter of, is the overall game still going to be there. Yeah, but to his credit, again, like that, overall game is like, he, as much as I joke about, like, oh, tradable offense. It’s like, he’s been remarkable this season.”

Shah: “He really has. He’s played at a top pairing level.”

NHL Rumors: Johnston and Dreger on Maple Leafs Matthew Knies

Nizzar: “Yeah, he’s, he’s played at a number two level, again, I would say even a high-end number two …”

Shah: “Yeah.”

Nizzar: “… for the whole season. And even in tough games, you still look at it, it’s like, you know what? That was a, you’re set up in a very tough environment, and maybe there’s a lapse here and there, but for the most part, like, the games where you’re like, ‘Oh, Filip Hronek was bad,’ they’re like, not even a handful.”
