“And also another goal and assist for Bobby McMahon. He’s got seven goals and four assists in eight games for the Kraken since he got traded there.
And you know, we’re just under the impression, I don’t think it’s gone very far down the road yet, but we’re under the impression the Kraken have indicated to McMann that they would like to try and keep him.
NHL Injuries: Blue Jackets, Stars, Panthers, Senators, Sharks, and Mammoth
Now, I don’t think the Maple Leafs and McMahon ever really got close. I still think there was quite a gap before he was traded to Seattle right before the deadline, but he’s been an excellent fit there. And they, at the very least, have said, can we talk here and figure out where things might go?”
Should the Vancouver Canucks overpay from UFAs on short-term deals?
Thomas Drance of The Athletic: (mailbag part 1) The Vancouver Canucks could be looking to sign some hardworking players to short-term deals to help with culture and to mentor some of the younger players. Those players could then become trade assets at the 2028 or 2029 trade deadline.
Potential options could be forwards Michael McCarron, Colton Sissons, Beck Malenstyn, and right handed defensemen Jacob Trouba, Connor Murphy and Darren Raddysh. Overpaying them on a two-year contract with a limited no-trade clause.
“I’m talking about silly two-year offers in the $8-10 million AAV range for Trouba, Murphy and Raddysh or offers in the $3.5-4 million AAV range for Malenstyn, Sissons or McCarron. I’m talking about doubling (or tripling, or quadrupling) these players’ salaries.”
Will July 1st Be Another NHL Trade Deadline?
Deals to convince them to go short-term with the Canucks and not longer-term deals elsewhere. The Canucks would then need to retain 50% of their salaries when they look to flip them in two years.
Thomas Drance of The Athletic: (mailbag part 2) The Vancouver Canucks could look at carrying three goalies next season so they don’t lose Nikita Tolopilo to waivers. Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen have full no-move clauses.
