Two of the top coaching candidates are Pete DeBoer and Bruce Cassidy
Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com: Pete DeBoer and Bruce Cassidy are two of the top coaches that will be looking for a job for next season. They have a combined 1,132 regular-season wins and another 159 in the playoffs.
“All I can say is, I’m ready,” DeBoer told NHL.com in a phone interview Sunday evening. “There are only 32 jobs in the NHL and it’s a privilege to have one of them. I’m humble enough to know that.
“Having said that, I have a lot of confidence in my track record of coming in and having success in different places. And I’m especially proud of my ability in the playoffs to have teams move forward.”
Over the past nine months, DeBoer said he’s had multiple teams calling and doing some tire-kicking.

Could there be some ‘hockey trades’ this offseason?
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: With the free agent crop dried up and the salary cap rising, could this be an offseason with some ‘hockey trades’
Marek: “When it comes to free agency this season. For teams that don’t have a young superstar walking through that door that’s going to help the team immediately. All the free agents are like all the top free agents are gone. With all due respect to Alex Tuch. All the free agents have signed.
We thought this July was going to be a bonanza of Kyle Connor and Connor McDavid and Kirill Kaprizov and Jack Eichel, etc. And it’s going to be none of them. Like the only way Burkey it seems to move a team forward now significantly is by trade.”
Burke: “A hockey trade. What a concept. Let’s make a hockey trade. What a concept. Let’s not sign someone else’s player. Let’s make a hockey trade.
But you’re right, the picking are gonna be slim. You’re not going to be able to improve dramatically on July 1st.”
It will be an interesting offseason of change for the Toronto Maple Leafs
Marek: “So that, that’s what I do wonder. Are we going to see, we thought it was going to happen last summer, it hasn’t. But now the cap is going to jump. So everyone doesn’t have the built in, ‘We don’t have cap space excuse.’ Do you expect this offseason to be the summer of trades?”
Burke: “Yes, I do, because I think finally, some sanity will return to the managers on July 1st. Especially with cap room. These guys that have money to spend, they’ll be itching to spend it. They won’t be able to spend it on anyone, because it’s not a good class. The guys that do move, will get big, though, and big term, for no good reason.”
